Quality Basic Education Fund Fully Funded for the First Time Since 2002

Today I am proud to announce that For the first time since 2002, the Georgia Legislature has fully funded our Quality Basic Education formula. This allows for the full funding of our local school systems and added in an additional $166.7 million more than the schools expected to have. Previously the legislature had put in place austerity cuts which reached close to $1 billion. This fills an enormous gap in our local school system’s budgets.

Additionally, we added in $16 million in new grants to k-12 systems to improve school safety due to the Florida campus massacre that occurred last month. For Coweta County, the grant amounts to $175,311, and in Fayette County, the grant amounts to $159,620 which will allow our schools to begin the process to become more secure.
